About Irem Coban: A Journey Through Art and Academia
Dr. Irem Coban is a media curator, artist, and academic based in Istanbul. She holds a PhD in Arts and is a faculty member at Istanbul Bilgi University, where her teaching and research focus on media arts, experimental film, and contemporary visual culture.
With over a decade of experience in the creative industries, Dr. Coban has developed an extensive practice as a media artist, experimental filmmaker, and curator. Her work spans moving image, digital and immersive media, and critical media practices, and has been exhibited, screened, and commissioned internationally. She has collaborated with a wide range of global cultural institutions and organisations, and her work has gained international recognition for its conceptual depth and experimental approach.
In addition to her artistic and academic practice, Dr. Coban serves as Media Curator for capitArtX, where she plays a key role in shaping the organisation’s curatorial vision and media strategy. She is also involved in the development of capitArtX’s UK-based immersive media lab, contributing to the conception, curation, and research of immersive, site-responsive, and technologically driven art projects. Through this role, she supports cross-border collaborations between artists, researchers, and institutions, with a particular focus on emerging media, experimental methodologies, and ethical approaches to technology.
